Dragon Ball Z - Dokkan Battle Mechanics

Dragon Ball Z - Dokkan Battle Mechanics

After selecting the Quest mode, or Event mode, a Difficulty window will appear, from Normal to Z-Hard (here can be found extreme and super characters), then friend select, forming a team of 7 characters, then items may be selected, and finally, the match itself will load.

Navigating through the tiles is very easy, there are three numbers, you click on it, and then you walk.
Type of tiles:
  • Target: You will inevitably receive a damage, as higher the difficult, higher damage.
  • Character figure: That means a battle, which can also be signed with a Stop sign, it will make you stop and battle even though not landing into the tile itself.
  • Character sitting on a tile: That usually means a Boss battle, so, get ready.
  • KI Tile: It will randomly increase the KI of one of your characters, friends included.
  • Money: Money means money bitch. xD
  • Capsule: This is an item, see items page.
  • Question mark means: Well, it means anything can happen, from a damage, to KI bonuses.
Earning a KI tile and the tile numbering.

This is how the inner battle looks like:

  1. Red Rectangle:  These are the enemies, can be more than one, up to four. They can have different colors.
  2. Gray Rectangle: Here are the color effectiveness, its closes as circle. Yellow > Purple > Green > Blue > Red > Yellow (Color Effectiveness Circle = CEC)
    1. As it can be noticed, each color has a direct strength against the next in the circle, which means Yellow is strong against Purple and weak against Red, pretty simple.
    2. Besides regular Colors, there are also Extreme (for Villains) and Super (for Heroes), which will lead to Super effective attack or very weak attack.
    3. An attack can be, similar to Pokemon style:
      1. Very Effective (200%, upper blue arrow): Respecting the Color effectiveness circle. Ex.: Green Vs Blue.
      2. Effective (150%, 45º Green Arrow): Sometimes based upon the CEC, and having its effectiveness from Super/Extreme against Normal and Rare Characters.
      3. Normal (100% Right Yellow Arrow) : Let's say using Red against Red, will end up as a Normal attack, no favor from color, as well as Red attacking a Green. However if using a Super/Extreme against a regular character may end up as an Effective attack, or Weak.
      4. Weak (50%, 315º Orange arrow): Sometimes based upon the CEC, and having its effectiveness from Super/Extreme against Normal and Regular Characters.
      5. Very Weak (25%, Down red arrow): Respecting the Color effectiveness circle. Ex.: Blue Vs Green, will end up as Very Weak attack.
      6. NOTE:  Also I've noted that, fighting King Vegeta (Z-Hard), which supposedly is Purple Extreme SSR against Green UR Freeza, my attacks against it should be VW, how ever it turned as W, as well as his attacks against me should be VE, it was received as E. So, besides the Color Effectiveness Circle and Extreme/Super versus Normal, N, R, SR, SSR and UR has also its way within the effectiveness.
      7. NOTE 2: Also it must be understood that the character itself has a DEFENSE, which will decrease the attack from enemy.
  3. Upper Arrow: Here lies the KI spheres, using the KI spheres of your character (Green surfing on Green) will increase its power against enemies, as well as each same color character and KI sphere will result into a multiplication by 2. The multicolored ball works as any color bonus.
    1. Each character has 12 KI spheres, see Yellow Rectangle portion, one can see that a outer circle to be filled, as well, Freeza itself has 5 KI spheres already filled up.
    2. So if a a Green character hits 6 (6x2) green KI spheres, it will result the KI Aura to be filled, which will inevitably result into a massive attack, called as Super Attack.
    3. Right below the HP bar, there is a bar called "Dokkan", as long as the game goes, attacks are issued the bar keep growing, if it reaches its maximum, one will have access to unleash a Dokkan attack, in order to use it, a Super Attack need be reached.
    4.  Freeza issuing a Super Attack
  4. Orange Rectangle: Here lies the characters list, clicking on the Team Circle (right below green Freeza), it will show the attack list, followed by its attack number, from 1 to 6, let's take step by step:
    1. Attack list: There are 7 characters, including the friend, each 2 group has 3, so 6 total, obviously one character will sit on the bench. Let's Call it T1 and T2. Freeza being the third character will be skipped in the next round, every third character (from left to right) will be skipped in the next round, so the bench guy can play. So next T1 won't have Freeza, skipping a turn, Freeza will appear in T2, and so on. More information can be found HERE.
    2. Character order: From the 1 to 3, the characters may be swapped by clicking and holding and dragging it around, this is good so one may select the stronger vs weaker based upon colors.
    3. Enemy attack order: I think a figure worth a thousand of words:
    4. Link Skills: Each character has different link skills, per say, all Freezas have link skills among them, as well as the Vegeta Family for instance:
    5.
  5. ITEM: It selects a support item, previously selected from pre-battle screen, when selected it uses right the away.
  6. Menu: Can select several options, like exit the battle for instance.
  7. Icons below Dokkan Bar: Money, items and Dragon balls, respectively from left to right.
    1.  As picture below can be seen, support items as well as the friend is shown before the match.
